Freestanding cut-limestone Celtic High Cross-style monument, erected 1924. Set back from line of road on red brick Flemish bond panelled platform with cut-limestone saddleback coping supporting replacement "Fleur-de-Lys"-detailed mild steel railings.
A monument marking the site where Michael Collins (1890-1922) was assassinated by an anti-Treaty column during the Béal na Blá Ambush (22nd August 1922). The monument was unveiled (2nd August 1924) by William Thomas Cosgrave (1880-1965) and General Eoin O'Duffy (1890-1944) and its Cló Gaelach inscription reads: "Micheal ÓCoileáin d'éag 22adh Lughuasa [sic] 1922".
