Description

Freestanding circular-plan folly tower, built c. 1790. Rubble limestone walls with pointed-arch openings.

Appraisal

Ornamental folly of well-executed limestone construction forming part of the historic Trabolgan House demesne, seat of Lord Fermoy, Edmond Roche Esq., and the Roche family from 1700 to 1880. The Gothic folly, named as Roche's Tower, was built as a banqueting house with panoramic views, and subsequently rented to the government as a watch tower in the late eighteenth century.
