Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1870, now disused. Banded shaft, fluted head, bucket grip to spout and curved cow’s tail handle terminating in ball.
This water pump exhibits fine artistic detailing in its design, with an elegantly curved handle and banded shaft demonstrating the high quality work which was possible in mass produced cast-iron in the latter part of the nineteenth century. It is an interesting and notable feature in the landscape and also offers a reminder of a time before domestic running water.
