Freestanding circular-plan navigation beacon, built c.1830, with tapered shaft. Painted coursed rubble stone construction with metal finial and spherical cap. Iron fixings close to base at north and west.
Built by the Crowley Brothers, this impressive navigation beacon forms an important element of the maritime history of West Cork. It is a substantial and distinctive landmark which has guided sea farers for more than a century. Locally known as 'Lot's Wife', it adds character and interest to the harbour.
