Description

Freestanding single-cell double-height Roman Catholic church, built c.1820, having four-bay nave and recent single-storey sacristy to south-west. Pitched artificial slate roof with bellcote (west), finial, rendered coping with uPVC and cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted rendered walls with plinth. Pointed arch openings with replacement uPVC windows. Pointed arch door opening with replacement timber battened door and tympanum. Open truss roof, polychrome tiled aisle and carved timber confessional to interior. Enclosed by rubble stone walls with upright slate coping, painted rendered piers and stone stiles.

Appraisal

This simple church is typical of earlier nineteenth century churches which are plain in style and modest in scale. Despite replacement window and door material, it retains notable internal features including a fine open truss roof, polychrome tiles and a fine confessional.
