Description
Single-arch hump back bridge over river, dated 1786. Now disused. Part overgrown rubble stone walls with rubble stone vertical coping to parapets centred on lichen-covered cut-limestone plaque ("1786"). Single segmental arch with schist voussoirs. Sited spanning Roughty River with unkempt banks to river. NOTE: Plaque inscribed: "THIS BRIDGE WAS/BUILT BY RICHARD/ORPEN ESQ. AT HIS/OWN EXPENCE [sic] IN/THE YEAR 1786". Labelled as "Ardtully Old Bridge" on the Ordnance Survey County Kerry Sheet 94.
