Description

Barracks, built 1797-8; rebuilt 1926, including attached three-bay single-storey guardhouse on a rectangular plan centred on single-bay full-height pedimented breakfront.

Appraisal

This barracks was built at the turn of the nineteenth century to designs by Graham Myers (1746-c.1801) and, known as "New Barracks", featured a somewhat standardised arrangement with officers' quarters blockhouses and soldiers' quarters blockhouses arranged around a large parade ground. A garrison chapel was added to the complex in 1850. The barracks was reconstructed and renamed in honour of Patrick Sarsfield (1655-93).
