Freestanding folly, built c. 1790, comprising three-stage pair of sham ruinous circular towers with connecting curtain wall. Rubble limestone walls. Loop windows to towers with pointed arch opening to curtain wall. Lancet openings to towers.
This folly, known as "Oliver's Folly" and occupying an elevated site known as "Castle Hill", catches the eye from the principal reception rooms of Castle Oliver and from various pathways and points in the densely wooded estate. It adopts the guise of a ruined castle, its turrets dramatic in silhouette, and its central pointed opening was designed to frame panoramic vistas overlooking rolling grounds by those who made the ascent.
