End-of-terrace three-bay four-storey house, c.1790, on a corner site. Extensively renovated, c.1990, to accommodate use as apartments. Pitched slate roof with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stack, rendered coping and cast-iron rainwater goods. Unpainted replacement cement rendered, ruled and lined walls, c.1990. Square-headed window openings with replacement concrete sills, c.1990. Replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1990. Round-headed door opening approached by flight of three limestone steps with moulded rendered surround. Replacement timber panelled door, c.1990, with overlight. Road fronted on a corner site with concrete footpath to front.
This house is an attractive substantial composition of balanced proportions that retains most of its original form and some of its early character. However, the visual appeal of the house is not enhanced by the inappropriate replacement fittings to the openings, and the covering to the walls. The house nevertheless remains an important component of the streetscape, forming the corner linking Mary Street with Diehouse Lane.
