Group of four freestanding cast-iron gas lamp standards, dated 1869. Converted, 1900. Street fronted on limestone flagged footpath.
A group of gas lamp standards supplied by George Smith and Company (established 1858; closed 1899) of Sun Foundry, Glasgow, representing an interesting example of cast-iron work making a pleasing visual statement in the shadow of Waterford City Hall and Theatre Royal. NOTE: The gas lamp standards carry the name of Alderman Cornelius Redmond (1807-98) who also 'projected' the bandstand (1869) as the centrepiece of People's Park (see 22830001).
