Freestanding cast-iron waterpump, c.1880, comprising banded cylindrical shaft with fluted head having inscribed spout with foliate detailing, and ‘cow tail’ curvilinear handle. Now disused with cap missing. Set back from line of road with random rubble stone boundary wall to circumference of site.
This waterpump is of significance, dating to a period before mains supply when a communal source of drinking water was deemed sufficient, and is also a good example of early mass-produced cast-iron work. The survival of the waterpump in its original location is also of importance. The waterpump forms an attractive, if subtle, feature in the streetscape, the various raised details enhancing the design quality of the piece.
