Pier, built 1912-5, on a cranked L-shaped plan with mass or reinforced concrete battered walls having mass or reinforced concrete chamfered coping supporting cast concrete mooring posts. Set extending into Dungarvan Harbour.
A pier erected to designs by Alfred Dover Delap (1871-1943) of Dublin (Transactions of the Institution of Civil Engineers of Ireland 1944, 261) representing an important component of the early twentieth-century built heritage of Heilbhic [Helvick]. NOTE: A plaque inscribed in "Cló Gaelach" typescript commemorates John Griffin Senior (1872-1945), John Griffin Junior (1904-45) and Nicholas Cuddihy (1905-45) who were killed when their fishing boat, "Naomh Garbhán", was mined and sank off Helvick Head (2nd May 1945) 'snatching the three of them and leaving a sole survivor [Patrick Whelan] to tell the tale of the disaster' (Dungarvan Observer 5th May 1945, 1).
