Freestanding chimney, c.1880, on a square plan comprising tapered shaft on pedestal/base with profiled cornice. Now disused. Red brick Common (fifth course headers) bond walls to pedestal/base with cut-stone tapered coping over, and yellow brick Common (fifth course header) bond walls to tapered shaft having profiled cornice with rendered coping. Set back from road in shared grounds.
An elegant feature in the landscape, this chimney is of particular importance as a reminder of the various ancillary works put in place to sustain a large-scale complex, such as the former convent in the grounds. The construction in red and yellow brick produces an attractive polychromatic visual effect, echoing the construction of a number of the buildings in the grounds (22830217, 321/WD-09-30-217, 321).
