Description

Freestanding single-bay single-stage rubble stone lime kiln, c.1830, on a square plan. Now disused and derelict. Random rubble stone walls with remains of lime mortar. Round-headed opening to oven with red brick, and rubble stone voussoirs. Road fronted an part engaged into side of hill.

Appraisal

A pleasant, small-scale artefact of industrial heritage significance on account of its original intended purpose as a communal facility for the preparation of lime. Although now long disused, and partly reclaimed by the surrounding landscape, the lime kiln continues to enhance the historic character of the locality.
