Freestanding single-bay single-storey rubble stone icehouse, c.1800. Now disused and derelict. Domed chamber built in buff brickwork Roof not visible (overgrown). Random rubble sandstone walls with lime mortar (overgrown). Square-headed door opening with stone lintel, and replacement sheet-iron door, c.2000. Interior with exposed random rubble stone walls having lime mortar, and flight of cut-stone steps to subterranean chamber. Set back from road in grounds shared with Ballynatray House.
Although now disused and obscured by heavy overgrowth, this icehouse remains an important feature in the grounds of Ballynatray House, providing insight into the various ancillary structures historically required in the maintenance of a large-scale estate. The icehouse is of some technical interest for its original intended purpose, and for the construction of the subterranean chamber that appears to remain intact.
