Broad U-plan quay, built c.1870, dressed granite stone block construction battered to north and south elevations. Concrete surface with steel rings, granite mooring posts, iron bumper rail and concrete steps set into northern elevation with recent railings and life rings. Double terraced parapet of irregular coursed rubble work with concrete steps to east and west ends. Iron work beacon to eastern end of quay with replacement light and cast-iron ladder.
This large functional quay has a striking bevelled batter to its south elevation. The scale and quality of the structure emphasises the formerly greater importance of maritime trade and industry on Galway Bay.
