Single-arch humpbacked railway bridge, built 1896, carrying road at skew over Athenry to Tuam railway line. Rusticated limestone parapet walls with tooled capstones, rusticated voussoirs to segmental arch and rusticated walling to elevations and abutments.
The limestone masonry of this relatively late example of railway architecture is clearly the work of skilled craftsmen. The rise and turn in the road necessitated by the bridge adds interest to the local landscape. The Athenry and Tuam railway was built by the Waterford and Limerick Railway to connect the Galway to Dublin rail line to Sligo.
