Semi-detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1870, having two-bay side elevation. Hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves, and rendered chimneystacks. Smooth rendered walls with cut limestone plinth, blind windows to first floor of side elevation, with cut limestone sills. Square-headed window openings with curved corners to front elevation, having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows to first floor and tripartite one-over-one pane windows to ground floor, all with cut limestone sills. Square-headed window openings with cut limestone sills to rear elevation, with mixed timber sliding sash windows of six-over-six panes, eight-over-eight panes and three-over-three panes. Segmental-headed door opening with timber panelled door in carved timber surround comprising panelled pilasters with fluted brackets, and overlight. Yard behind house served by vehicular entrance having square-profile cut limestone piers with wrought-iron double-leaf gates. Garden to front of house bounded by decorative cast-iron railings on cut limestone plinth, and with similar cast-iron pedestrian gate set to square-profile chamfered cut limestone monolithic piers. Cast-iron pedestrian gate, with square-profile chamfered cut limestone monolithic piers, matching railings on cut limestone plinth to site boundary. Vehicular entrance to side with square-profile cut limestone piers with wrought-iron double-leaf gates.
The size and scale of this building indicate the prosperity and growth of Ballinasloe in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The retention of notable timber sliding sash windows with curved corners enhances the elevation. The broad frontage and symmetry make it an interesting part of the streetscape. The gates and railings add to the overall character of the site. This house makes an interesting pair with, and contextualises, its neighbour.
