Triangular public park at centre of Clarinbridge village, laid out c.1875, bounded by snecked squared limestone walls with castellation-like coping stones. Pedestrian gate comprises cut limestone piers with plinths and carved caps, with decorative wrought-iron gate. Garden to interior with lawns and flowers, with freestanding carved limestone cross, erected c.1890, commemorating Sir Thomas N. Redington, comprising ringed Celtic cross having rope moulding to panels containing interlace to all faces. Base plinth having inscribed plaque.
This green at Clarinbridge is a very unusual feature in County Galway and indeed in Ireland. It is clearly the creation of the local landlord. The Celtic cross memorial in the middle commemorates Sir Thomas Redington whose family, in 1820, obtained a patent to hold the first market in the town.
