Vehicular entrance gateway to Kilcornan estate, erected c.1860, comprising cut and carved limestone piers with moulded caps and plinths, chamfered panel to front and rear faces with shield devices, ornate wrought-iron railings set on cut-stone plinth, and cut-stone curved flanking walls with cut-stone capstones. Gates removed.
This gateway to the Kilcornan House estate, is a notable feature on the approach to Clarinbridge from Gort. The piers of cut stone are a good example of the high quality of stone masonry practiced in the locality, and the wrought-iron railings are an attractive feature. Even though the gates are now missing, this gateway is an attractive landmark, and serves to convey to the passer-by the grandeur of the house contained within the grounds.
