Description

Terraced three-bay three-storey house, built c.1800, with recent timber shopfronts to ground floor. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cut limestone eaves course. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed replacement timber windows to upper floors with render sills. Round-headed doorway to house with painted stone Gibbsian surround, spoked fanlight, limestone threshold and timber panelled door.

Appraisal

This house and shopfront combination is a traditional feature in Irish towns, with well-to-do merchant families living over the shop. The finely carved Gibbsian door surround is a repeated feature along the street, and enhances the significance of the building. It contributes to the streetscape, as part of a continuous building line of slightly staggered height.
