Single-arch limestone road bridge, built c.1820, spanning Bunowen River. Comprising round arch with rubble stone voussoirs and gunnelled soffit. Lightly dressed rubble stone piers with flanking stepped-profile buttresses. Radially arranged stonework to spandrels. Rubble stone parapets with curved terminals. Battered stepped-profile rubble stone revetments.
This bridge is a fine example of early nineteenth-century engineering and craftmanship and is one of a group of bridges in Connemara having stepped abutments to a single arch. The arch of this bridge is solidly constructed and the structure is enhanced by the flanking buttresses and the string course which create a visual frame around the arch.
