Freestanding limekiln, built c.1800, having round arch. Now disused. Dressed limestone walls with tooled limestone voussoirs to arch. Rubble stone walls elsewhere. Stoking aperture comprising red brick soffit with cast-iron door surround and hinges with iron grates to centres for lime and fuel.
This is an attractive and quite intact example of a late eighteenth-century/early nineteenth-century limekiln. It serves as a reminder of the industrial heritage of Corr na Móna [Cornamona]. It strategic position ensured easy transport on the river and a continuous airflow is assured by its siting on a hillock. The tooled limestone front enhances the appearance of the structure.
