Freestanding cast-iron water pump, manufactured c.1880, comprising fluted shaft, head and domed cap, cow's tail handle, fluted detail to spout and simple cast-iron bucket grip. Set on concrete plinth with concrete parapet wall and steps.
This is a rare surviving water pump from the late nineteenth century. It exhibits artistic detailings in its design which enhances the aesthetic apperance of an otherwise functional object. This object would have played an important role in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries by providing a communal water source to this rural area.
