Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1880. Banded shaft, fluted head, fluted doomed cap, cow's tail handle, moulded detail at junction between spout and neck with simple cast-iron bucket grip to spout. Set on an elevated concrete pedestal with concrete parapet wall and concrete steps to approach to side. Concrete water troughs to front and rear elevations. Located on roadside beside laneway to farm.
This late nineteenth-century water pump exhibits artistic detailing in its design including a banded shaft and cap and a curved cow-tail handle which enhance the aesthetic appearance of this functional object. The concrete troughs to the front and rear attest to its role as a water supply for animals. The simple plain bucket grip to the spout indicates its importance in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries for the provision of a communal water source to the rural area.
