Entrance gateway, erected c.1880, to Cuan Mhuire, formerly Coolanoran House, comprising pair of square-plan cut limestone piers with moulded plinth, moulded panels, coller with paterae and pyramidal pier cap topped with carved stone scrolls and palmettes. Ornamental decorative wrought-iron gates and similar railings, latter on curvilinear cut limestone plinths with chamfered coping and terminating in circular cut limestone piers with moulded bases, collar with flat paterae, and cylindrical caps with gadroons topped by domed finial.
These highly decorative gates add considerable interest to the entranceway of the former Coolanoran House. The skills of the stone carver and metalworker are clearly evident in what is a significant artistic achievement. Its roadside setting makes this entranceway an eyecatcher.
