Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1870, now disused. Comprises cylindrical shaft with moulded horizontal banding, fluted upper section, fluted domed cap with pointed finial, decorative moulded collar to spout neck and cow's tail pumping arm. Set back from road and enclosed on three sides by rendered boundary wall.
An important part of nineteenth and early twentieth century social life, the water pump provided a water source to the local community and so became an important social element within each town and village. Though now disused, this pump retains its original form and artistic detailing and its prominent position adjacent to a crossroads signifies its importance and utility.
