Description

Single-arch limestone road bridge over railway, built c.1850, having symmetrical plan about east-west axis. Coursed squared and snecked rubble walls and piers with flanking walls to east and west. Segmental arch with dressed limestone voussoirs to arch rings, squared diagonal-set stone to spandrel panels, projecting string course and parapet with chamfered coping stones. Woodlawn Railway Station to west.

Appraisal

This handsome stone bridge lies on the Athlone to Galway line which was opened by Midland Great Western railway in 1851. Built of well detailed natural stone, it is relatively is unaltered and has a pleasing symmetrical composition.
