Appraisal

This extensive quayside is a striking landmark of the Kilkieran landscape and was built to facilitate the transport of material related to the kelp industry - in particular loading ships bound for Scotland in the middle to late nineteenth Century. A kelp factory is still in operation adjacent to the quay.
