Freestanding L-plan quay, built c.1880, extending into Cuan Mhaínse [Mweenish Bay] with gantry and pump house additions to south and west elevations. Dressed granite block construction, built to courses with shuttered concrete and dressed granite coping stones, battered to south and west elevations, parapet to south and west elevations (granite with concrete cap) with sets of steps to either end of parapet. Granite and concrete surface to quay with recent road surface. Granite mooring posts and iron mooring rings, two sets of dressed stone steps, iron and galvanised steel ladders inset into quay wall on east elevation.
This quay was built to facilitate the local fishing economy with later additions being associated with NUI Galway. The fine stone work adds to the character of the coastline in this area.
