Curvilinear causeway incorporating small island towards south-west end, built c.1895, with single concrete bridge span to south-west. North-west and south-west ends part of original line of causeway, with remains of original dog-legged causeway to north-west. Battered dry-stone walls with irregular coursed mortared rubble stone parapet with toppers and concrete over bridge span. Alignment of existing causeway situated over former trackway/fording place.
This extensive causeway was built to improve communications and commerce with up the somewhat isolated Island communities of Eanach Mhéain [Annaghvaan Island], Leitir Móir [Lettermore Island] and Garmna [Gorumna Island]. This piece of maritime engineering is of technical interest as well as being a structure of aestheric interest.
