Appraisal

This former school, situated within its own grounds beside a river, is of a similar plan and layout to other rural schools within Galway and across Ireland and retains some of its historic fabric including tooled limestone sills and a wrought iron swinging gate characteristic of many such schools. The building would have been an important educational centre for the local rural community who otherwise would have had to travel great distances for education facilities. The building also has some artistic detail with decoratively cut rafters projecting from the eaves which enhance the facade.
