Detached three-bay single-storey former school with attic-storey, built c.1890, having recent additional single-storey with dormer attic to rear elevation having canted bay to rear, and porch to north-east elevation, now in use as house. Pitched slate roofs with projecting decorative rafters to eaves and rendered chimneystack. Roughcast rendered walls to original block and rendered walls to addition. Square-headed window openings having tooled limestone sills and replacement timber casement windows to front (south-east) and rear elevations, concrete sills, timber and uPVC casement windows to additional block. Oculus window opening to south-west elevation. Square-headed door openings having battened timber door to front with tooled limestone name plaque over opening, glazed battened timber door to north-east elevation. Rubble stone boundary walls with wrought-iron gate and rubble stone piers having recent galvanised gates.
This former school, situated within its own grounds beside a river, is of a similar plan and layout to other rural schools within Galway and across Ireland and retains some of its historic fabric including tooled limestone sills and a wrought iron swinging gate characteristic of many such schools. The building would have been an important educational centre for the local rural community who otherwise would have had to travel great distances for education facilities. The building also has some artistic detail with decoratively cut rafters projecting from the eaves which enhance the facade.
