Description

Detached four-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1800, having corrugated-iron shed to north gable. Pitched thatched roof having low red brick chimneystack. Painted smooth rendered walls throughout. Square-headed window openings having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening having timber battened half-door. Wrought-iron pedestrian gate with rubble stone piers and boundary wall to front garden.

Appraisal

The low elevation, thick walls, and small openings are typical of the vernacular tradition in Ireland. Once common throughout the countryside and small villages, thatched buildings have become increasingly rare. This example retains its original form and notable features such as its timber sash windows and low chimneystack.
