Cast-iron water pump, installed c.1870, with banded cylindrical shaft, fluted domed cap with pointed finial, fluted spout with plain bucket grip and curved cow's tail pumping handle. Located at roadside within enclosure with rendered walls.
This water pump exhibits artistic detail in its design, with its elegantly curved handle and fluted cap and spout. It illustrates the high standard of industrial design achieved in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Water pumps played an important social and functional role in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, by providing a communal water source.
