Description

Single-arch limestone railway bridge, built 1851, carrying road over Dublin to Galway railway line. Rock-faced rusticated walls, parapet walls and piers, and cut-stone string courses. Elliptical arch with ashlar soffit, cut limestone impost course and rock-faced rusticated voussoirs.

Appraisal

This railway bridge exhibits high quality construction and detailing, with the rustication giving an expression of strength. Visible from the Attymon Railway Station, it makes a pleasing group with the station buildings, and adds interest to the railway line. Built by the Midland Great Western Railway Company, it is a good example of mid-nineteenth-century railway engineering.
