Entrance gateway to Liskelly House, erected c.1840, comprising vehicular gateway flanked by round-plan piers having moulded string course, moulded cornice and base, cut-stone plinth and cap, with decorative cast-iron double-leaf gate, flanked by similar railings, terminated by square-plan piers having panelled faces, moulded string course, cut-stone plinth and caps with curved cornices, all in turn flanked by rubble limestone quadrant walls. Cut-stone wheel guards inside and outside gates.

Appraisal

This fine entrance introduces the relatively modest Liskelly House and its farmyard. The combination of round and square plan piers is unusual, their detailing is good, and the gates and railings are a typical example of nineteenth-century cast-iron work. The whole makes an eyecatching roadside feature of good quality craftsmanship.
