Detached ten-bay building, built c.1880, having single-storey to southern seven bays and two-storey to northern three bays, and L-plan two-storey return to rear. Hipped slate roof, pitched to rear return, with red brick chimneystacks. Coursed snecked squared rubble limestone walls wuth plinth. Square-headed openings throughout, with six-over-six pane and four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows having cut-stone sills and lintels, and battened timber doors with paned overlights. Concrete ramp to south end of front elevation.
This barracks building, partly in use as a museum, has similar detailing to most of the other buildings at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa. Its form is somewhat unsuall, being partly single and partly two storey. The retention of timber sash windows considerably enhances the building and adds interest.
