Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge with attic storey, built c.1860, having windbreak to front (north) elevation. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack and some cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with red brick platband at window head level. Square-headed window openings having red brick voussoirs and limestone sills, with two-over-two pane timber windows. Square-headed door opening with red brick voussoirs, door not visible. Wrought-iron double-leaf gates with cut limestone piers and flanking walls to west of site. Set within grounds of Rockfield House.
Though no longer in use as a gate lodge, the scale and form of the structure are typical of the type. The simple architectural form is enhanced by the use of red brick details. The lodge served Rockfield House which no longer survives.
