Detached five-bay single-storey vernacular house, built c.1800, with lean-to extension to rear (south) elevation. Now in use as public house. Pitched thatch roof with low rendered chimneystacks. Rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with painted stone sills, with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, and fixed multi-pane timber window. Square-headed door openings with timber battened doors. Painted timber nameplate over door, with raised lettering. Single-storey outbuildings flank front of house, western being three-bay and eastern being single-bay, having pitched corrugated-iron roofs, rubble stone walls, and square-headed openings. Set back from road at junction.
This is an attractive example of the vernacular tradition in Ireland. Vernacular structures are becoming increasingly rare in both urban and rural areas in Ireland. The additional outbuildings add context to the site. Is siting and use as public house, at a junction with a school and church nearby, highlights its social function.
