Appraisal

One of several interesting features on the former demesne of Ballydonnellan Castle, forming part of a notable group with the ruined house, the dovecote, the outbuildings, and the site entrance. Walled gardens were an integral part of demesnes, providing a sheltered environment allowing the cultivation of a wide variety of kitchen ingredients, for the family and their guests. The simple unadorned form reflects its utilitarian function.
