Freestanding limestone cenotaph, erected in memory of Michael McDonogh who died 1820. Comprises rubble plinth having recessed inscribed limestone plaque to front face, and top having roughly dressed limestone coping and roughly dressed equal-armed limestone cross. Monument set at roadside and is abuted by field walls.
This cenotaph is one of a remarkable series of distinctive memorials on Árainn, erected to the memory of local individuals who died in the nineteenth century. The combination of rubble limestone walling and inscribed plaques provides an interesting textural contrast.
