Freestanding limestone cenotaph erected to memory of Captain Anthony O'Flaherty who died 1822. Comprises rubble plinth having recessed inscribed limestone plaques to front face and top having roughly dressed limestone coping and equal-armed roughly dressed limestone cross with rounded terminals. Monument set at roadside and abutted by rubble limestone walls.
This cenotaph is one of a remarkable series of distinctive memorials on Árainn, erected to the memory of local individuals who died in the nineteenth century. The combination of rubble limestone walling and inscribed plaques provides an interesting textural contrast.
