Freestanding limestone cenotaph erected in memory of Patrick Flaherty who died 1830. Comprises rubble plinth having recessed inscribed limestone plaques to front face flanked by dressed stone work and topped by rubble coping surmounted by rubble stone work and base of broken cross. Quarter arc of sun's rays to top corners of lower plaque. Monument set in field close to roadside.
This cenotaph is one of a remarkable series of distinctive memorials on Árainn, erected to the memory of local individuals who died in the nineteenth century. The combination of rubble limestone walling and inscribed plaques provides an interesting textural contrast.
