Description

Cast-iron wall-mounted post box, erected c.1915, with royal insignia of King George V and crown. Set in rubble limestone boundary wall at crossroads.

Appraisal

The insignia and crown on this post box are reminders of the period in Ireland immediately prior to Independence. George V was the last of the British monarchs to have his insignia on post boxes in Ireland. The social significance is highlighted by its prominent position at a crossroads.
