Freestanding circular-plan icehouse, built c.1800. Comprises corbelled rubble limestone roof, rubble limestone walls, partially grassed over, with redbrick skin to interior. Pointed arch entrance. Socketed rubble limestone stone to site. Domed ceiling internally, base filled with rubble, and structure overgrown.
Icehouses are a rare building type and are mainly associated, as in this case, with the demesnes of large country houses. They illustrate the engineering and innovation required to preserve and chill food in the past.
