Detached single-bay single-storey vernacular outbuilding, erected c.1920. Pitched roof with crow-step gables and roped rye straw thatch covering. Rubble limestone walls, with base batter to north wall, and square-headed door opening to east gable having timber battened door and limestone lintel. Ruinous buildings to north side having rubble limestone walls and with doorway in north elevation. Sited in field having rubble limestone boundary walls.
This farm building is one of an interesting group of similar structures on Inis Meáin and of a wider group on the Aran Islands. The use and retention of thatch continues a long tradition of thatched roofing in Ireland and the occurrence of thatched outbuildings is also increasingly rare.
