Freestanding icehouse, built c.1780, in demesne of Marble Hill. Disused. Rubble limestone walls, partly grassed over. Pointed arch opening to north-east elevation. Passageway leading to vaulted chamber with rubble limestone walls and vertical shaft. Built into side of ringfort.
Icehouses were an important part of the life of a country house and demesne. They are also of technical importance for being associated with the long-term preservation of food in the period before refrigeration. The shaft of the icehouse is excavated into the bank of a ringfort.
