Board of First Fruits style Church of Ireland church, built in 1829, with three-bay nave, projecting chancel, porch to north end and two-stage tower with castellations, pinnacles, string course. Pitched slate roof and pedimented gables. Cut limestone walls with eaves course, plinth and quoins. Stained-glass lancets and traceried tudor-arched east window with hood mouldings and sandstone surrounds. Timber battened double doors set in pointed-arched opening with carved limestone and sandstone surround. Graveyard with grave markers, bounded by random stone wall with cut llimestone piers and cast-iron gate.
Set within its own grounds, St. John's Church, contributes to the character of Drumshanbo. The understated Gothic Revival design, typical of Board of First Fruits churches, is of architectural significance. Decorative stained glass windows add artistic interest to the structure as do the simple stone dressings and carved grave markers.
