Detached four-bay single-storey direct entry thatched farmhouse, extant 1896. Reroofed, 2005. Pitched roof with replacement reed or straw thatch, mesh-covered exposed hazel or sally lattice stretchers to ridge having exposed scallops, rendered battered chimney stack, and concrete coping to gables on "Hollow" kneelers. Limewashed lime rendered battered walls. Square-headed window openings with concrete sills, and concealed dressings framing timber casement windows. Square-headed opposing door openings with concealed dressings framing timber panelled doors. Set perpendicular to road.
A farmhouse identified as an important component of the nineteenth-century vernacular heritage of County Mayo by such traits as the alignment perpendicular to the road; the rectilinear direct entry plan form; the construction in unrefined local fieldstone displaying a battered silhouette; the somewhat disproportionate bias of solid to void in the massing; and the high pitched roof showing a replenished thatch finish. Furthermore, adjacent limewashed outbuildings (extant 1896) continue to contribute positively to the group and setting values of a neat self-contained ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in a pastoral street scene.
