Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge, extant 1894, on a symmetrical plan. Now disused. Hipped slate roof on collared timber construction with clay ridge tiles centred on rendered chimney stack having stringcourse below capping supporting terracotta pots, and no rainwater goods surviving on overhanging rendered eaves. Limewashed roughcast walls. Square-headed central door opening with concealed dressings framing timber boarded door. Square-headed flanking window openings with rendered sills, timber mullions, and concealed dressings framing timber casement windows. Set back from line of road at entrance to grounds of Cloonee House.
A gate lodge illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the Cloonee House estate in the later nineteenth century with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form; and the slightly oversailing roofline. A prolonged period of unoccupancy notwithstanding, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, thus upholding much of the character or integrity of a gate lodge forming part of a self-contained group alongside an adjacent gateway (see 31311003) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene.
